Scavenging the Thames

I was speaking to my friend Tom Chivers about his strange and wonderful hobby of scavenging the edges of The Thames.

There are a whole host of these wonderful people looking for tiny treasures that speak of the history and culture of this great city.

I love the connection between his hobby and my hobby. I love how we forage for poems in the strangest of places. Sometimes my best work is on the tube staring at passengers wondering what they are thinking, or sat in a busy bookshop or staring out of my window on the Old Kent Road. I love the busyness of it all.

So inspired by Tom I decided to post his latest discovery. A pipe!

Your prompt for the day

The prompt is simple for you.

Imagine where this pipe has been.

Who owned it? Describe them?

Describe the family around that protagonist.

What is their greatest fear? What do they worry about?

How could the pipe be a metaphor for these worries?

Try your hand at a brainstorm and remember…

the most important thing is to enjoy it because if you enjoy it others will too!
